[Bios aren’t exactly the most enjoyable things to read, so one thing you might try is reading mine with a Dutch accent. The Dutch accent puts an emphasis on every other syllable, giving the words a bouncy rhythm that’s really fun. And if you read like that out loud, people will leave you alone.]
Wonderful performances, sharp dialogue, superb comedic timing, strategic thinking, easy collaboration—these are a few of the things you can count on from me when we shoot together.
I also have a good eye and a sixth sense for creating fresh, unexpected moments that cut through and stick — all honed over years as an award-winning Creative Director at some of the best agencies around, like W+K.
It’s a potent combination that has clients repeatedly placing their trust in me and my ability to consistently deliver work that not only grabs attention, but gets results. This exchange of trust is at the core of my partnership philosophy.
Over the past several years I’ve directed a long list of compelling campaigns for some of the world’s leading brands including Toyota, Starburst, Honda, Visit California, VW, Build.com, Hotels.com, CarGurus, Lowe’s and Persil, to name a few.
I’ve also established myself as a trusted director and writer for sports and celebrity talent, having collaborated with the likes of Anna Faris, Dax Shepard, Monica Padman, George Lopez, Yaya DaCosta, Magic Johnson, Amar’e Stoudemire, Paul George, Henrik Lundqvist, Adam Graves, Derek Jeter, and John Cena, to name…-drop.
I’d say my versatility is unmatched. While comedy is my first love, I’m also right at home working with kids and other wild animals, executing practical effects, orchestrating multi-million-dollar productions, orchestrating multi-hundred-dollar productions, painting rich visual stories, navigating more emotional storylines, and even directing Spanish language spots. ¡A huevo!
My directing career got off to a crazy fast start with an Emmy nomination for the Dominos Pizza “Anything Goes” viral videos. My writing career started a bit differently—on the back of a 30-foot flatbed truck that I parked in front of Ogilvy’s headquarters in Midtown Manhattan. I set up a makeshift office—desk, chair, lamp, carpeting, computer, trash bin, dead plant, stale cup of coffee and a six foot tall letter to the CCO that read, “Dear Bill, Until you decide there’s room for me upstairs I’ll be right here.”
It worked. From there I was off (minus the truck) to Wieden, working on ESPN and Nike. Cliff Freeman on Fox Sports. Merkley on Mercedes. My final agency stop was as an ECD at JWT, leading some of the best young creative teams in the business on JetBlue, Domino’s, LL Bean, Stride Gum and Swedish Fish.
Along the way I’ve earned honors from D&AD, The One Show, Cannes Lions, Clios, The Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, and SHOTS Awards. But nothing compares to my win as a Cub Scout of the coveted Space Derby Blue Ribbon.
Dank je!
